A Note from Ryan

Greetings Friends!

This week I want to wrap up the overview of our Resolve sermon from the beginning of January. Our primary focus for 2010 as a church family is:

 

Resolve to make Jesus our chief affection.

 

This means everything we do– our families, our time, our energy, our focus, our jobs, our education, and our finance– are all directed to this end.  This year and every year to come, we resolve to make Jesus our chief affection. 

 

Today I want to highlight the fourth aspect of this pursuit.  To make Jesus our chief affection will mean we must be willing to:

 

4. Pay for the mission

 

We are not a church that pressures people about their money, but we do talk about it because Jesus talks about it in the Scriptures. Jesus talked about money more than anyone else in the Bible, probably because our money reveals where our affections lie.

 

We want to be a church marked by generosity, because we serve a generous God. The question we must each ask ourselves is this: “What does it look like for me to live generously?” This will be different for each of us, but the goal is generosity.

 

I am blessed and overjoyed to be able to say that we have already seen tremendous growth in this as a church this year. This past Sunday we took a special offering for the new office we are moving into next weekend, and by God’s grace we saw $4000 given! Thank you for your generosity!

 

One of the primary reasons we must grow in generosity is that we are beginning to give 10% over our total income as a church to both local and global church planting this year. There will be much more on this in the next few weeks, but I want to continue to ask you to come before God honestly and ask Him, “What does it look like for me to live generously?”

 

I love you guys and thank you for your faithfulness to the mission and for resolving to make Jesus your chief affection!

Prayer Requests

• A deeper understanding of the Gospel and its implications in our lives as a church family
• A deeper understanding and application of what it means to live on mission as a church
• Opportunity and courage for us to engage in spiritual conversations with lost people
• That like the church in Acts 2 we would see continuing growth in both health and number of people coming to know Jesus
• The upcoming move into the new office space
